FAQ
Frequently Asked
Questions
Q. How is prefabrication a benefit?
A. Duro-Last factory fabricates
approximately 80-85% of the roof at one of its four
manufacturing facilities. Through prefabrication, roof sections
up to 2,500 square feet are manufactured inside under controlled
conditions. The rooftop can be a harsh environment where heat,
cold, wind and moisture will affect the quality of a seam made
by a rooftop laborer. Manufacturing under controlled conditions
virtually eliminates workmanship concerns.
Q. Why is the
Duro-Last warranty the best available?
A. The Duro-Last commercial 15-year
warranty is the most comprehensive warranty available in the
roofing industry today. The standard 15-year Duro-Last
commercial warranty covers all materials sold by Duro-Last and
it covers the workmanship on the installation. The warranty is
for repair or replacement of the roof for 15 years and it does
not have exclusions for pooling water or consequential damages.
Duro-Last also carries a commercial 20-year prorated warranty
for roof projects.
Q. Is the Duro-Last
Roof System energy efficient?
A. The white Duro-Last Roofing System
reflects 86% of the sun's rays, resulting in a significant
reduction in air conditioning costs. When heating costs are a
concern, Duro-Last is mechanically-attached, which enables large
amounts of insulation to be installed during the installation of
the roof. The outcome: reduced heat loss. Duro-Last is also a
'charter partner' of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's
Energy StarŪ Roof Products Program. The Energy StarŪ Roof
Products Program assures customers that their energy dollars are
maximized.
Q. What code
approvals (national, local, wind ratings) does Duro-Last meet?
A. The Duro-Last Roofing System is designed
to meet or exceed all roofing industry standards - national and
local. Because Duro-Last prefabricates its roofing system, the
roof will be custom-designed to meet some codes before it
arrives at the job site. Call the Duro-Last Engineering
Department at 1-800-248-0280 for any specific code or design
questions.
Q. What business
disruptions will occur during installation of the Duro-Last
Roofing System?
A. During installation, there is little or
no disruption to the building owner. There are no noxious fumes
or odors during the installation process. Also, there is little
noise during installation. Since Duro-Last is
mechanically-attached, the usual disruptions associated with
roofing are eliminated. If a tear-off is not required, you may
not even notice the roof is being installed.
Q. How does Duro-Last
train authorized roofing contractors to install the Duro-Last
Roofing System?
A. Every new Duro-Last authorized
contractor is encouraged to attend a Duro-Last "in-house"
training program. Plus, on-the-roof training is conducted by
Duro-Last for every new Duro-Last contractor. Additional
training is accomplished through the Duro-Last Quality Assurance
warranty inspection program. All roofs must be installed to
strict specifications. Every commercial roof (any size) that a
roofing contractor installs is physically inspected by a Duro-Last
quality assurance inspector. The quality assurance inspector
ensures that a contractor's workmanship are always at a high
level.
Q. What services
will Duro-Last provide to ensure that the roofing system is
properly designed and installed?
A. With assistance from the Duro-Last
sales, engineering and quality assurance staff, Duro-Last can be
part of the roof project from the design phase all the way to
the final inspection. With proper scheduling, Duro-Last can
assist in evaluating the conditions of existing roofing systems
and aid in writing specifications on any roofing project. During
the installation process, Duro-Last can also provide assurance
that the roof is being installed to specifications.
Once any commercial roof project is completed, Duro-Last quality
assurance personnel will physically inspect the roof to make
sure it meets Duro-Last published specifications.
All the services related to a roof project are available to
roofing contractors, building owners and architect/engineers.

information.
Q. Duro-Last has
a published 15-year warranty. How can a building owner be
certain that Duro-Last will be around that long?
A. Duro-Last has been supplying and
warranting roofing systems since 1978, making it one of the
oldest roofing manufacturers in the industry. Duro-Last has been
under the same ownership since 1978, providing stability that is
very important when a building owner is investing in a long-term
warranty relationship. The current Duro-Last Roofing System has
also been available for over 20 years and has successfully
performed beyond the life of the published 15-year warranty. In
today's roofing market, very few roofing systems have been on
the market more than 10 years. It simply makes sense to invest
in a roofing system that has been proven successful in its
performance and warranty life.
