Girdler Elementary School Roofing Project

At the Knox County Schools June Board meeting, some fantastic news was announced. The Girdler Elementary School re-roof project was recently completed. The existing Duro-Last roofing membrane had admirably served the Girdler Elementary School for over 20 years and has been replaced with a new Duro-Last Roofing System that will provide another 20+ years of service. What makes this re-roof project particularly interesting is its positive impact on the environment.

The installing roofing contractor was JBK Commercial Roofing. JBK working with Summit Engineering's architects in the successful execution of the roof project was informed by Duro-Last's manufacturer Representative Scott Crowder that the old Duro-Last roof membrane could be recycled! Scott coordinated efforts with JBK's General Manager, Garry Peters, in making arrangements to ship the old roof back to Duro-Last for recycling and repurposing the membrane into commercial-grade vinyl floor tiles.
